a small kiss

I love shooting silhouettes! To me, they are one of the easiest and safest ways to make a beautiful portrait. Usually, I'm shooting these images with very little residual light left in the sky so my exposure settings are reaching the limit of hand holding the camera. In this case, I just wanted to show what a simple kiss of light can do for a simple silhouette.
Nothing more and nothing less. 1 speedlight, l1 KISS.
Try this one, you will make wonderful images!
Can you guess where my flash power setting was?
Cheers!

PS. December 6 is MY wedding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sol & I covered a wedding on Dec 1. We also had our associate shoot a wedding yesterday and a TTD today... We have 2 weddings on Saturday, are we freeks?

Gypsy, I tried to write you back, but the email you provided bounces to me...
sorry.
Mr. Adcock,
My sister's business "D & E Events" is putting on the Bridal Faire 2008 in Poplar Bluff, MO in February. They have had me scouring the 'net looking for the perfect graphic to put on the cover of the program for that day. When I showed them this photo, they went nuts for it. They would like permission to use this image.
The programs are not for sale, but to be handed out to brides/grooms/family members attending the Faire, which will host booths of vendors who offer services related to weddings/receptions.
Is there any possibility of gaining permission to use this image for the cover of the program? Your name would, of course, remain on the photo to ensure it is credited properly.
We would truly appreciate hearing from you, and will respect your wishes regardless of your decision.
Sincerely,
D & E Events
Poplar Bluff, MO 63901
What a great shot! I really need to get more practice with silhouettes. The lighting is tricky, but the results are obviously worthwhile!
Congratulation to you
Nice Shots.
Congratulations on your wedding, lovely shots!
GRACIAS!!! For all the kind words and wishes to our wedding day... :)
GRACIAS, we are feeling like freaks with our own wedding now past, how insane that was!
Yes, we use low power, 1/64 and 1/128 all day. That image is directly out of the camera, no PS post processing.
I will be doing a post on some of the images that a few of my friends sent me, crazy stuff!
Cheers,
mateo
Congratulations! Have a wonderful time and get some rest at some point!!
Congratulations Sol & Matt on your wedding today! The best to both of you.
Matt, love this blog. Check it out daily for the latest update. Great information and inspiration for lighting. Thanks for all your help.
And you two must be kissing right about...... now.
Congratulations.
And love the sites. both of them.
Congratulations to both of you!
This is such a beautiful shot. If I didn't know better, I would say there was no flash involved at all, which is, I'm guessing, the whole idea. But there has to be, right? It's not the SunFlavor blog after all!
Best Wishes!
Man oh man, I should be there right now! I will mention your name with honor tonight at the local ATL get together and we will raise a glass for you guys.
Cheers bro, and congrats.

Matt,
Long time lurker, 1st time poster. Wanted to congratulate you on tying the knot with what looks to be an amazing wife, and fellow photographer! I am very excited and pleased to see that (I'm guessing) you guys picked Susan stripling, she is an incrediiiible wedding photographer, I have been following her work for a while. You're probably running around getting ready for the proceedings as I type this. So wish you all the best and see ya when you get back from honeymoon (WITH pictures).
BTW, the picture above, very kickass, it's gotta be 1/128th my guess.
Congratulations, you two. A match made in (speedlite) heaven.
congratulations on your upcoming marriage.. wish you all the best... and cheers ... wish you a very happy married life..
I follow your posts and I thinkyou're doing a great job. Congratulations!
And, of course, congrtulations for your wedding!
Hi Matt and Sol,
Congrats on your wedding. Enjoy it!
Bert
Congratulations to your wedding, enjoy this day!
And I'd too like to know who is going to shoot pictures, but I would not really be surprised if you and your wife would do it yourself :)
Come on Matt we all know your pwr. setting :)
What a delicate shot. Nice touch. Nice web sharpening (wink, wink)
Have a great day off.
Congratulations, Matt and Sol! I read your blogs often and am ALWAYS inspired...couldn't help but add in some well wishes for the both of you on your very own wedding day! Blessings to you both! (Yeah, you are kinda freeks, but in a totally good way!) Rock on!
Excellent shot and congratulations on your upcoming marriage. I wish you and your betrothed a lifetime of happiness and joy! All the best!
Power setting: 1/64th or 1/128th would be my guess.
Beautiful! I love the light on her veil. I would imagine the power would have to be pretty low to still keep all the detail of the veil.
Congrats on your wedding!
Somewhere around 1/64th??
i'd guess somewhere around 1/64, depending on how much you can dial that flash down.
Congratulations on your own Marriage... who is taking pictures for it? That's what I have always wondered about my own wedding... It would be difficult to hire someone... :)
